HỘP is a budding publishing house.

It embarks on its journey with Shoeboxes’75, a poetic tale inspired by the story of Cécilia—born somewhere one day in 1974 in southern Vietnam.

Written by Jérôme, the story is co‑edited as a couple and illustrated by the young Vietnamese designer T. Ho of Phuong Nam Book.

From this narrative springs an original collection of objects, extending the reading experience and universe beyond words.

HỘP collaborates with local publishers, artists, and artisans in an ethical approach that honors traditional knowledge and collective memory.

Singular, sensitive stories.

Often secret.

HỘP means “box” in Vietnamese. It holds memories, emotions, and sensations that come alive through the reader’s eyes.

Shoeboxes'75

Shoeboxes’75 is a tale told in 20 poems, recounting the story of Lê Thị Mỹ, born somewhere one day in 1974 in southern Vietnam.

Through her journey, the stories of thousands of babies sent to the United States before North and South Vietnam were reunited on April 30, 1975, come into view.

Some were orphans. Others had families. Many were carried in a simple cardboard box—the famed “shoeboxes.”

It all happened fifty years ago. Already!

In this narrative, Vietnam itself unfolds: its beauty, the frenzy of its cities, and the winding trails through its rice paddies…

Come walk them for yourself!
